Dr Monia EL Bour is a Senior Lecturer at the INSTM, Tunisia. She holds a PhD in Aquatic Microbiology and is an expert in Aquatic Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bio monitoring and Bioremediation and bio-valorization of aquatic micro-organisms. Since 2019, she has been Chairwoman of the CIESM of Marine Microbiology and Biotechnology Committee.

Her main activities include aquatic microbial systematic and studies and cytological and molecular screening and extraction of natural products project studies in the regional Mediterranean area. She is also involved in the assessment of marine benthic communities, fish diseases and bioremediation. Dr El Bour's ongoing specific projects include bio monitoring for different marine ecosystems: microbial communities and their potential biotechnological applications for (i) biodegradation (bioremediation) or (ii) antifouling.

She has authored and co-authored over 200 international and national publications, and has held directorial and participant roles in over 23 projects focused on health, bio-monitoring and bioremediation of aquatic organisms since 1994. She has been the director of more than fifty master's and twenty thesis documents in the field of aquatic sciences research, biotechnology microbiology and environment. She has delivered lectures at numerous conferences and communications in national and international scientific meetings and courses. She is also a reviewer for 30 international journals focusing on aquatic sciences research, biotechnology, microbiology and the environment.

She is a member of five Non-Governmental Associations in Marine Sciences, Microbiology and Biotechnology, as well as two international Associations of Microbiology (SFM) and and Marine Mediterranean Commission of Marine Sciences (CIESM).
