Status Report on the Implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management in the Arab Region

The Status Report on the Implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management in the Arab Region (SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation) has been published. The report finds that national efforts supported by bilateral, subregional, and regional cooperation initiatives over the years have helped Arab countries implement elements of IWRM (Integrated Water Resources Management). Most, however, need to set targets in line with national priorities and capacities to encourage action on the ground and further progress.

The report is a result of collaboration between the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the UN Environment Programme, with support from the UNEP-DHI Centre on Water and Environment. It would not have been possible without the efforts and contributions of government officials and other stakeholders from 19 Arab countries in reporting on SDG indicator 6.5.1 in 2017/18.

All results can be explored through the IWRM portal http://iwrmdataportal.unepdhi.org . You can also download the global baseline report, the Africa baseline report, and national baseline reports and results summaries from 172 reporting countries.
