UNFCCC COP 29 | Highlights of two MedECC Special Reports

Up to 20 million in the Mediterranean could be displaced by 2100 due to sea-level rise. Marine heatwaves, which have grown in frequency and duration by 40% and 15% respectively over the past two decades, coupled with environmental degradation in one of the world’s most heavily plastic polluted areas, have a variety of worrying ecological and socioeconomic effects on the Mediterranean. This video, created by the Union for the Mediterranean Communication Service, is inspired and based on the key findings of the two MedECC Special Reports Climate and Environmental Coastal Risks in the Mediterranean and Interlinking climate change with the Water – Energy – Food – Ecosystems (WEFE) nexus in the Mediterranean Basin that were launched during a Press Conference at the UNFCCC COP 29 on 18 November 2024.
